Eminence Ensemble and Matisyahu
Eminence Ensemble opened for Matisyahu at the Voodoo Lounge on March 2, 2018. The room had a really chill vibe as Eminence Ensemble jammed. There sound felt similar to phish with more of an experimental vibe at times leaning Caribbean. You could feel all work week stress washing off the room as they played. This band was the perfect band to kick off the night.
As the set changed the crowd grew loud with anticipation for Matisyahu to start. The crowd was extremely friendly. All the people around me were making friends in between sets. When the lights dimmed and the band took the stage, you could feel a powerful energy in the room.
Matisyahu’s set opened with the band playing a groovy instrumental piece. As the song ended, the lights went low and Matisyahu took the stage. Towards the end of the song he hopped onto a large speaker and sat. His legs swinging he took in the band and the crowd. A few songs later the band played and Matisyahu danced around the stage mesmerizing the crowd into a positive presence. As he beatboxed, the lights flickered across the venue, the people moved like waves in the ocean to his beat. Matisyahu played more of his newer songs during his set, but when the crowd called him back for the encore, he played some of his major hits.
